Ampalaya



scientific name:Momordica charantia
English name :Bitter Melon

-Used to treat diabetes,this herbal plant is belongs to the family of Cucurbitaceae. and it has a leave shaped like a heart which are 5 to 10 centimeter in diameter.The bitter taste of the ampalaya had also been the distinguish from the rest of the medicinal value, due to the presence of a substance known as momorcidin. Aside from Ampalaya's medicinal value, it is good source of vitamins A, B and C, iron, folic acid, phosphorous and calcium.And ampalaya also helps treat skin diseases and cough.

Its herbal value extends to increasing the sterility of women, in parasiticide, antipyretic, and has purgative functions, as well. Note: In large dozes, pure Ampalaya juice can be a purgative and abortifacient.

Atis



Scientific name: Anona squamosa L.
English name: Sugar apple/ Sweet sop.

-its is a small tree but used as a medicinal herd, the leaves and seeds are usual used in treatment of diarrhea, dysentery and fainting.
Atis us we called here in the philippine than Sweet Sop and Sugar Apple. And atis is native to central America the Carribbean and northern South America. Atis was introduced here at the philippines during the time of Spanish.
Atis is just a small tree it grows between 10 to 20 feet high when it is fully matured, with oblong leaves and green hear-shaped with polygonal tubercles. The atis fruit has white sweet flesh and black seed.
Atis tree is easy to grow,just plant a seed on almost any soil and atis will grow .However, it require a tropical or near tropical weather. Atis will bear fruit about 3 times a year, and the sweetest fruits are those borne during summer time.

Toxic Properties of the Atis Fruit
All parts of the atis tree have medicinal value. The seeds however are poisonous. The seeds are pounded and made into paste. This can be applied to the scalp of the head to kill hair lice. Care should be taken when applying atis seed paste on the scalp as this is extremely irritating to the eyes and can even cause blindness. The paste when applied into the uterus can cause abortion.

Atis Use as Herbal Medicine
  • A decoction (boiling in water) of the leaves induces or hastens menstrual flow and used to treat dysentery, colds and fever.
  • The decoction is also used for bathing to alleviate rheumatic pain.
  • Crushed leaves are inhaled for dizziness and fainting.
  • The bark of the atis tree is used as a decoction for diarrhoea.

-Specie of the onion family, it can be used also to reduce cholesterol to lower blood pressure.And it is so popular for its natural antibacterial effects, it may applied directly on wound to prevent infection. Bawang or Garlic which only grows up to sixty centimeter high,its leaves are flat and linear with bulbs that consist of several tuber.
Garlic or bawang known her in the philippines is also a anti cancer. It have been performed in medical research,and been prove through population-based studies that a substance containing garlic or Bawang help reduced the risk of some of the types of cancer. These type are colorectal malignancies and gastric cancer. It is remarkable to note though that the Philippine Department of Health has endorsed that garlic is one of the top ten Philippine herbs, that have a therapeutic value and they also recommend it use as an alternative herbal medicine.

Preparation of Bawang/Garlic

  • For disinfecting wound, crush and juice the garlic bulb and apply. You may cover the afflicted area with a gauze and bandage.
  • For sore throat and toothache, peal the skin and chew. Swallow the juice. Cloves of garlic may be crushed and applied to affected areas to reduce the pain caused by arthritis, toothache, headache, and rheumatism.
  • Decoction of the bawang bulbs and leaves are used as treatment for fever. For nasal congestion, steam and inhale: vinegar, chopped garlic, and water.
